What Is IVF Treatment?
In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is an assisted reproductive treatment in which eggs and sperm are brought together in a laboratory to create embryos. The treatment involves several carefully planned stages, from ovarian stimulation to embryo transfer.Understanding how the treatment works, what happens at each stage, and what to expect can help you make more informed decisions.
— TREATMENT PROCEDURE
IVF Treatment Process Step by Step
The IVF treatment process usually takes place through a series of planned stages. Your exact protocol and timeline may differ depending on your fertility evaluation and response to treatment.
Step 1: Fertility Evaluation & Treatment Planning
Before treatment begins, both partners undergo fertility evaluation, including relevant blood tests, ultrasound, semen analysis, and medical history review to create an individualised plan.
Step 2: Ovarian Stimulation & Monitoring
Hormonal medicines are used to stimulate the ovaries so multiple follicles can develop, while regular scans and blood tests help monitor the response safely.
Step 3: Egg Retrieval
When the follicles are ready, eggs are collected through a short ultrasound-guided procedure performed under sedation, while a semen sample is prepared for fertilisation.
Step 4: Fertilisation & Embryo Development
The retrieved eggs are fertilised with sperm in the laboratory, and the resulting embryos are monitored for development before selecting an appropriate embryo for transfer.
Step 5: Embryo Transfer & Pregnancy Test
A selected embryo is gently transferred into the uterus. After the recommended waiting period, a pregnancy blood test is performed to check whether implantation has occurred.
What Couples Should Know
Knowing the IVF treatment process step by step is important, but couples should also understand that treatment is personalised and several factors can influence the journey.
1. IVF Results Depend on Multiple Factors
IVF outcomes vary with age, ovarian reserve, sperm quality, embryo development, uterine health, and underlying fertility issues, so results cannot be predicted from one factor alone.
2. Understand the Treatment Timeline
The IVF treatment process may involve injections, scans, blood tests, egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and follow-up visits, so understanding the timeline helps couples prepare better.
3. Not Every Egg Becomes an Embryo
Not every collected egg becomes an embryo, and not every embryo implants. Your doctor should explain the expected response, embryo development, and realistic possibilities before treatment.
4. Understand What Your Treatment Cost Includes
Before starting, ask what is included in the treatment cost, which medicines or tests are separate, and whether additional procedures may be advised in your case.
5. Prepare for the Emotional Side of IVF
IVF can feel physically and emotionally demanding. Having clear communication, practical support, and realistic expectations can make the treatment journey easier to manage as a couple.
Why Choose Zeeva Fertility for IVF Treatment?
Choosing the right fertility centre is about more than undergoing a procedure. Couples need personalised medical guidance, clear communication, careful monitoring, and support throughout their treatment journey.
1. Personalised IVF Treatment Planning
Treatment plans are tailored around the couple’s diagnosis, age, ovarian reserve, semen parameters, previous treatment history, and clinical needs rather than following a fixed protocol.
2. Careful Monitoring Throughout Treatment
Close monitoring throughout stimulation, egg retrieval, embryo development, and transfer helps the clinical team make timely decisions and keep patients informed at every stage.
3. Clear & Transparent Patient Communication
Couples receive clear explanations about treatment steps, investigations, expected timelines, and next decisions so they can understand why a particular approach is being recommended.

— Common questions
Fertility Questions, Answered
When should we consider consulting an IVF specialist at Zeeva?
Generally, if you are under 35 and have been trying to conceive naturally for 12 months without success, it is time to consult us. For women above 35, we recommend a consultation after 6 months. If you have known issues like PCOS, endometriosis, or low sperm count, you should book an appointment immediately.
What is the success rate of IVF at Zeeva Fertility?
We are proud to maintain one of the highest success rates in the country, currently reaching up to 78%. However, success is highly individual and depends on factors like age, embryo quality, and your specific medical history. During your consultation, Dr. Shweta Goswami provides a transparent assessment of your personal chances.
Is the IVF procedure painful?
The most “invasive” part is the egg retrieval, which is performed under light sedation. You won’t feel pain during the procedure, though you may experience mild cramping or bloating for a day or two afterward, similar to menstrual cramps.
How long does one full IVF cycle take?
A single cycle typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. This includes the period of ovarian stimulation (8–12 days), egg retrieval, fertilization in our lab, and finally the embryo transfer. A pregnancy test is usually scheduled 10–14 days after the transfer.
What makes Zeeva’s IVF lab different?
Our lab is equipped with world-class technology, including advanced incubators and Laser-Assisted Hatching. We follow stringent international protocols for embryo culture, ensuring that embryos are handled in a sterile, temperature-controlled environment to maximize implantation success.
Can we choose between a Fresh or Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)?
Yes. While fresh transfers are traditional, Frozen Embryo Transfers (FET) are often recommended at Zeeva. FET allows your body’s hormone levels to return to a more natural state after stimulation, which can sometimes lead to higher implantation rates and a healthier environment for the baby.
Do I need complete bed rest after the embryo transfer?
No. Modern medical evidence shows that complete bed rest does not improve success rates. We recommend resting on the day of the procedure, but you can return to your routine, non-strenuous activities the next day. We simply advise avoiding heavy lifting or high-impact exercise until your pregnancy test.
What are the options if my first IVF cycle is unsuccessful?
An unsuccessful cycle is not the end of the road. At Zeeva, we conduct a “post-cycle review” to analyze why the cycle didn’t result in pregnancy. We may suggest advanced diagnostics like PGT-A (Genetic Testing), ERA (Endometrial Receptivity Analysis), or adjusting your medication protocol for a better response in the next attempt.
Does IVF increase the risk of multiple births (twins or triplets)?
Our goal is a single, healthy pregnancy. To minimize the risks associated with multiple births, we prioritize Single Embryo Transfer (SET) when the embryo quality is high. We only transfer multiple embryos after a detailed discussion with the couple regarding the benefits and risks.
Are there any lifestyle changes I should make before starting IVF?
Absolutely. We recommend maintaining a healthy BMI, quitting smoking and alcohol, and managing stress through our integrated wellness programs. Proper nutrition and prenatal vitamins (like Folic Acid) are also essential to prepare your body for a successful pregnancy.
